What's a CAG

A Citizens Advisory Group (CAG) within the EPA Superfund program serves as a vital bridge
between local communities and government agencies during the cleanup of hazardous waste
sites.  A CAG is typically composed of diverse community
stakeholders, including residents, business owners, local officials, environmental groups, and
sometimes site owners. Its primary role is to provide a structured, representative forum for public
involvement in the decision-making process.

CAGs enable community members to voice concerns, ask questions, and offer input on cleanup plans, risk assessments, and long-term site management. They help ensure that local perspectives and priorities are considered alongside technical and regulatory requirements. While CAGs do not have formal decision-making authority, their recommendations can significantly influence EPA actions and foster more transparent, community-informed outcomes.
